The PolishMaster 2101 replacement pad is the first and maybe the only thing
that ever will need replacing. As you use your polisher the
foam pad begins to lose its' elasticity. The foam needs to
be soft enough to contour the shape of your vehicle (boat,
RV, whatever...) but over time it loses its' ability to bounce
back into its' original shape. The pad becomes more compact
and rigid.
The type of chemicals that are used also has an impact on
pad longevity, heavily applied waxes and polishes seep through
bonnets and absorb into the pad causing the foam to deteriorate
and in some instances crumble. Chemical damage may also cause
the layers that make up the pad to begin to separate.
Poor storage also affects the foam pad, storing the polisher
with the pad face down (or on an angle) and all the polisher
weight on top of the pad will distort the shape and cause
uneven spin.
