Bonnet
Comparison And Usage
Docare is the manufacturer; we design, create and
ship our own bonnets and have been doing so for over 15 years. We
are very proud of our product and quality has been the hallmark
of our bonnets since day one.
Docare manufactures bonnets in four styles
- Single
Sided
- Double
Sided
- 100% Cotton
- Microfiber
Single
Sided Bonnets
Description - Docare single sided
bonnets are made with one layer of high quality terry cloth
material, this is the traditional style that is available
from most retailers; the primary difference between bonnets
is the material that is used, and the quality of workmanship
in its construction. Bonnets are NOT created equal. Each manufacturer
uses different base materials at different levels of workmanship.
Cheap materials produce poor results, short bonnet lifespan,
and wasted effort. Docare prides itself on high quality workmanship,
combined with superior materials creating professional level
products.
Materials:
- Terry Cloth: High grade, superb quality 16
ounce terry cloth. The terry cloth is plush, soft and durable
allowing it to withstand dozens of washing before showing
any wear.
- Elastic cuff: The elastic is the 'secret'
behind great bonnets; it is the elastic that binds the terry
cloth into a bonnet shape. Docare's elastic cuff retains its'
elasticity after many washes due to its' superior quality.
- Thread: Docare uses a very strong polyester
thread (Tex45) to sow the elastic cuff to the terry cloth
ensuring that the bonnet stays together for its' entire lifespan.
- Available Sizes: 6" 7" 9" 10"
11" 12"
Double Sided Bonnets
Description - Docare double sided
bonnets are made with two layers of high quality terry cloth
material. The first layer is the exact same as the single
sided bonnet, high quality terry cloth. The second layer is
a 'stretch' terry cloth; it feels soft and resembles velour.
The double sided bonnet is by far the most popular bonnet
style among professional auto detailers. The bonnet is reversible;
you could literally apply wax using the terry cloth side of
the bonnet then reverse the bonnet so that it is 'inside out'
and remove the freshly applied wax. Docare does not recommend
this, as heavily applied wax can seep through the terry cloth
onto the stretch terry side, but if you where in a pinch for
bonnets this could be done. Professionals tend to use the
terry cloth side to apply wax, and a second double bonnet
using the 'stretch' terry side to remove it.
Materials:
- Terry Cloth: High grade, superb quality 16
ounce terry cloth. The terry cloth is plush, soft and durable
allowing it to withstand dozens of washing before showing
any wear.
- Stretch Terry Cloth: Docare uses a specially
blended terry cloth of 80% cotton and 20% polyester. The 'thread
loops' on the terry cloth are much smaller and tighter together,
making the material very soft and resembling a velour texture.
- Elastic cuff: The elastic is the 'secret'
behind great bonnets; it is the elastic that binds the terry
cloth into a bonnet shape. Docare's elastic cuff retains its'
elasticity after many washes due to its' superior quality.
- Thread: Docare uses a very strong
polyester thread (Tex45) to sow the elastic cuff to the terry
cloth ensuring that the bonnet stays together for its' entire
lifespan.
- Available Sizes: 6" 7" 9" 10"
11" 12"
100% Cotton Bonnets
Description - Docare 100% cotton
bonnets are exactly that, 100% baby soft flannel cotton. Cotton
bonnets are new to the Docare lineup, demand for soft flannel
bonnets for final polishing has caused Docare to go to the
drawing board and create this new line. Our preliminary release
was a single sided bonnet, but after vigorous testing, we
discovered that doubling the material made the bonnet thicker,
softer, and more durable. Also, by making the bonnet double
sided we gained all the attributes of a double sided bonnet,
mainly its' ability to be reversible. Docare recommends this
bonnet for final phase detailing because of its' 'cool spin'
attributes. As the pure cotton bonnet spins it produces less
friction, which in turn reduces heat and most importantly
helps eliminate possible haze.
Materials:
- 100% Cotton Flannel - High grade 6 ounce soft
flannel cloth.
11" 12"
Microfiber Bonnets
Description - Docare's microfiber
bonnet is made with one layer of high grade (and expensive)
microfiber material. Microfiber is NOT created equal, similar
to terry cloth where there are many levels of quality; microfiber
also comes in different grades. Currently there is a surge
of microfiber being imported from China. Unfortunately this
microfiber is not of a high quality and subsequently was rejected
by Docare as base material for the construction of its' bonnets.
A good quality microfiber is soft and almost 'sticky' to the
touch, it kind of clings to your fingers as you rub it. It
is this quality plus its' incredible absorbency that has made
microfiber so valuable. It is lint free, collects dust like
a magnet and cleans glass surfaces like a miracle. The auto
detailing world has had mixed reviews about the microfiber
bonnet and Docare feels that it stems from the fact that microfiber
bonnets have been used incorrectly. The microfiber bonnet
should be used to remove wax and final phase polishing only,
not as a method of applying waxes or polishes.
Materials:
- Microfiber: Docare uses a high grade cloth
manufactured in the U.S.A. The threads that make up Docare's
microfiber material is made with a special polyester and polyamide
blend, each thread is cut several times like splitting a hair
over and over again. The splitting of the thread is a primary
determinant in microfiber quality. Most cheap microfiber splits
the thread into smaller round strands, high quality microfiber
splits the thread similar to cutting a pie, in wedge shapes;
this increases the clothes ability to trap and remove dirt
particles.
11" 12"
